EMULATORS

I have had success with two PC based emulators.

PC6001V

This is a DOS based emulator that runs fine under Windows. It is written by Yumitaro whose site is here. Source code is available.

I have got it to run with the PC-6001 and PC-6001mk2 roms, but not the PC-6601 roms that seem to be selectable in the .ini file.

Getting it going:

  • Unpack the distribution, ensuring that the directory structure is maintained
  • Put the unzipped roms in the "rom" directory
  • Put the unzipped sample program in the "tape" directory
  • Edit the [CONFIG] section of the PC6001V.INI file by changing the model line to "model=62"
  • Run the executable and choose your sound output
  • Choose Mode 2, and then 4 pages
  • Press F9, navigate to the "tape" directory, and select the game
  • Back at the console screen, type "cload" and press enter
  • Wait! These things had SLOW tapes
  • When loaded type "run" and press enter
  • Play funny old game
  • Press F8 to get a menu allowing option settings and quit.

Note that the Mode and Pages settings need to vary from program to program, and a note is often included in a tape archive. F11 appears to reset the emu.

The full instructions in Japanese are provided via a link on the distribution site. If anyone wishes to translate, you know who to contact ;)

iP6

This is a Windows based emulator apparently originally written for Unix by Ishioka Hiroshi. From what I can make out the Windows port is by M. Moriya whose site is here.

Getting it going:

  • Unpack the distribution
  • Put the unzipped roms in the same directory
  • Put the unzipped sample program in the same directory
  • Download the patch package (thank you to whoever first wrote this for the EX68 emu)
  • Unpack the patch package in the same directory and run IP6PAT.BAT
  • Run the emulator
  • Choose Mode 2, and then 4 pages
  • From the File menu ( extreme left ) choose Set Tape and select the game
  • Back at the console screen, type "cload" and press enter
  • Wait! These things had SLOW tapes and this emu does it REAL slow
  • Keep waiting, or go to the beach for a while ( seriously! )
  • When loaded type "run" and press enter
  • Play funny old game
  • Quit via the bottom option in the leftmost menu

Note that the Mode and Pages settings need to vary from program to program, and a note is often included in a tape archive.

If anyone wishes to translate the menu options, you know who to contact ;)
